Abstract

Pediculus humanus capitis lives on the skin and hair of the human head, sucking blood, causing itching, hair clumping, secondary infections, and a foul-smelling head. Head lice treatment can use natural ingredients such as starfruit and lime, because they contain active chemicals that can kill head lice. This experimental study aims to determine the effectiveness of starfruit juice and lime on the mortality of Pediculus humanus capitis at the same concentrations of 11%, 12%, and 13%. Each treatment was tested on 5 adult lice with 3 repetitions and a maximum observation time of 45 minutes. Data analysis used a probit test. The average time to death for starfruit concentrations of 11% was 39 minutes, 12% was 36 minutes, 13% was 33.33 minutes, and lime concentrations of 11% was 45 minutes, 12% was 43.66 minutes, and 13% was 37.66 minutes. Starfruit is more effective in killing head lice than lime at the same concentrations
